Remarks: Catapult-mail: from 1930-’39 there were 2 fast Steamships (the “Bremen”and the “Europa”) which had an installation on board to launch a small plane to forward mail to New York or Southhampton. The ships left from Bremerhafen. Also there was a special air service from Cologne to Cherbourg, where the mail was picked up for the boattrip across the ocean. So there were several possibilities:
  1. By boat from Bremerhafen across the ocean and then by catapultmail to NewYork
  2. By boat from New York across the ocean and then by catapult mail to Southampton.
  3. From Cologne by air to Cherbourg (France), by boat across the ocean and then by catapultmail to New York.
There is a large variety of cancels, see specialcatalogue: “Katapultpost der Dampfer “Bremen”und “Europa” by Erich Haberer, 1977.
